2012- the year in review

Every year I do a photo mosaic of the year in review. Wow, there's always so many pictures to go through and it's fun to reminisce when making the selections for the collage.

So here's a sampling of my year. As I look at it I realize there is a definite theme, food! I joined Weight Watchers and lost 18 pounds but still managed to be able to reward myself from time to time.

I found a new tearoom in 2012. Heath Tearoom in Rockport. Had a lovely time with my friend Lori Lee.

Spent some Summer nights just before sunset at Horn Pond in Woburn. So peaceful there.

I had a few dessert nights instead of full blown parties in 2012.

Found a new dessert place in Providence called Pastiche. It is located in the Federal Hill area which is full of great eateries.

I left my job of 20 years. Boy that was a very hard decision. I miss my former coworkers but I am still in touch with many of them.

Tried my hand at nighttime photography with my friend Don at Nubble Light in Maine.

Finally attended a Waterfire event in Providence. It was spectacular and I hope to go back next Summer.

Had my Wimbledon breakfast again last July.

A few trips to one of my favortie stores, Nesting left me a little lighter in the wallet. I also enjoyed shopping estate sales, flea markets, yard sales and auctions.

I enjoyed putting together my tablescapes for Easter and the Harvest dinner.

A mini sister's vacation wss just what my Sister and I needed in October.

Had a great time dining in a lighthouse in Newburyport.

Percy, Molly and Oscar never failed to entertain me.

Had a wonderful time at a Christmas tea in Chelmsford with my friend Karen.

Made a few trips last Summer to my favorite spots in Rockport.

Discovered some new coffeehouses, The Biscuit in Somerville, and Jitters Cafe in Melrose.

So that's a wrap for the year 2012. I hope the year 2013 is happy and healthy for all.

Wow, you did so many fun and exciting things this past year. I hope this year brings more of the same fun to you. Happy New Year Elaine!

Congratulations on the weight loss, Elaine! My gosh, you post pictures of yourself on your blog and you don't look like you need to lose any weight at all!

It looks like you had a lovely year; beautiful photos! Thanks so much for your visit.
I think you had quite a lot of fun in go to a lot of events, I wish we did more of that. I guess I am more of a homebody than you. And you are so lucky living near the waterfront, there must be so many fun things to do and see up and down the coast. BTW, I love the name of that coffee shop, Jitters! lol!

Hurray for you with WW. I tried and failed last year. I just kept falling off the wagon with sweets, the story of my life! Good job! And...are you working now? It's a big leap to leave a job after 20 years. And I'm sure they hated losing someone like you with your experience.

All the best in 2013!

Appleton Farms- Farm to Table and more

Friday night I rushed home from work, fed the kitties, changed my clothes and picked up my sister at her house. I couldn't wait to head up to Ipswich, MA and Appleton Farms for their farm to table dinner.  As soon as we pulled into the entrance of the property, all the tensions of the day went away.

The weather was cool, a perfect temperature for outdoor dining, live music and lawn games. What a peaceful setting.

The sign said play & have fun. I did not know how much fun we really would have.

Here's a view from the field. The tables were ready outside and there were more inside the barn.

Fences and stone walls encircled the field and property. Hay bales were set up as seating for listening to the live entertainment for the evening.

The band was named The Austin Torpedoes. They were wonderful. We really enjoyed their performance.

Lemonade was available at a self serve station. You could buy beer or wine from the Ipswich Ale Brewery Truck. Yes, the spiggots were right on …

Embracing the season-my Autumn checklist

It's the most wonderful time of the year! I am speaking of my favorite season Fall. We are in the thick of it now and it is fabulous! It's not quite peak foliage but we are getting there.

Here are my reasons to embrace Fall.

1.  Outdoor dining- Those early Fall days are even better than in Summer. Cooler temps make it more comfortable sitting in the sun and the scene is more colorful. In late Fall, I switch to sitting by fireplaces whenever I can.

2. Old graveyards- I am strangely drawn to old graveyards in the Fall. Maybe it's because most graveyards have fantasticly colorful trees and I just notice them more in Fall. Or perhaps it's the Halloween connection.

We have some very old graveyards in New England and they are definitely worth a visit.
You could even take a historic graveyard or ghost tour. There is a graveyard tour in my hometown in two weeks.

3. An Autumn Walk- What's better than an Autumn walk around your neighborhood?

I love to pick up some colorful …
